Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arusha

Your guide welcomes you at Kilimanjaro Airport with the vehicle that stays with you throughout the trip. A private transfer takes you to Arusha, the gateway to the national parks of northern Tanzania. At your accommodation you can rest and prepare for the days ahead.

  2. Day 2

    Arusha → Karatu

In the morning you take a tour of Arusha, then walk through coffee plantations. In the afternoon you continue with your guide to Karatu, a town on the edge of the Ngorongoro Highlands. You spend the night here and set off into the crater the next morning.

  3. Day 3

    Ngorongoro

In the morning you descend with your guide to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. On the full-day game drive you cross grassland, swamps and patches of woodland, looking out for lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras and wildebeest. You have a very good chance of seeing the endangered black rhino here, and depending on the water level flamingos gather on the alkaline lake. In the evening you drive back to Karatu.

  4. Day 4

    Lake Manyara

After breakfast you drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Your game drive leads through dense groundwater forest, across open grassland and along the lake, and you will often see elephants, giraffes and buffalo. With a bit of luck you may spot one of the tree-climbing lions that rest in the acacias here. In the afternoon you stroll through a village in the region and get to know the everyday life of the people there. In the evening you drive back to Karatu, where you spend the night.

  5. Day 5

    Karatu → Tarangire

Today you explore Tarangire National Park, where mighty baobabs shape the savannah. Your game drive follows the Tarangire River, considered the region's most important year-round water source. Particularly large elephant herds are a common sight here, along with buffalo, zebras, wildebeest and giraffes. With a bit of luck you may also encounter lions or a leopard.

  6. Day 6

    Tarangire → Arusha → Zanzibar

After breakfast you drive back to Arusha with your guide. From there you continue with a domestic flight to Zanzibar. At the island's airport the team picks you up and takes you to your hotel on the beach, where your days on the island begin.

  7. Day 7

    Zanzibar

The first day in Zanzibar is entirely yours. You swim in the Indian Ocean, lie on the white sand and rest after the safari days. If you like, take a walk along the beach and watch the dhows on the water.

  8. Day 8

    Zanzibar

This island day is free. You can stay on the beach and enjoy the sea. A trip to Stone Town through the narrow alleys and across the markets, or a visit to a spice garden with vanilla and cinnamon, is not part of the programme. If you wish, the team can book the excursion for you at extra cost.

  9. Day 9

    Zanzibar

Today is a free beach day. You can book an optional boat trip to the Mnemba Island reserve with snorkelling off the coast.

  10. Day 10

    Zanzibar

This day is also free. A spice tour to a garden where vanilla and cinnamon are grown, with a tropical fruit tasting, can be booked separately.

  11. Day 11

    Zanzibar

The day is free. You can book an optional boat trip on a traditional dhow along the coast, for example in the late afternoon with a view of the sunset over the Indian Ocean.

  12. Day 12

    Zanzibar

Nothing is planned today. You swim in the warm water, lie in the shade of the palm trees or sample the local cuisine with fresh fish. If you like, you can end the day with a walk along the beach.

  13. Day 13

    Zanzibar

The last full day on the island is yours. If you want to stay active, you can book snorkelling, kitesurfing or sailing separately. In the evening you look back on two weeks of safari and beach.

  14. Day 14

    Zanzibar

In the morning you still have time for a final swim in the sea or a walk on the beach. Then the transfer takes you to Zanzibar airport. From there you begin your journey home.

Nkoaranga Orphanage

The Nkoaranga orphanage at the foot of Mount Meru has existed since 1997; around 30 children up to the age of three live there with 12 carers. Instead of a fixed contribution, Wildfinder Safaris regularly buys supplies for the orphanage: groceries, toiletries and similar items.

WildlifeNOW is a Kora Project programme at Mkomazi National Park: it protects black rhinos and African wild dogs, maintains their populations through breeding and safeguards the ecosystem. It also raises awareness in the surrounding communities, and Wildfinder Safaris supports the programme.
