Itinerary
Day 1
Your guide welcomes you at Kilimanjaro Airport and drives with you to Arusha. The town is the starting point of your safari through northern Tanzania. You spend the rest of the day relaxing at your accommodation and settling in before the first game drive begins the next morning.
Day 2
After breakfast, you drive with your guide to Lake Manyara National Park on the escarpment of the East African Rift. On the game drive, groundwater forest, open grasslands and lakeshore alternate: elephants move through the forest, hippos lie in the swamps and, with a bit of luck, a tree-climbing lion rests in an acacia. In the afternoon, you continue to Karatu, where you spend the night.
Day 3
From Karatu, you continue to the Serengeti, Tanzania's best-known national park. Its name comes from the Maasai language and means "endless land". The drive through the wide plains is already your first game drive: lions, elephants and giraffes live in the park all year round, and large herds of wildebeest and zebra roam the grassland. In the evening, you reach your accommodation in the Serengeti.
Day 4
A full day in the Serengeti, with game drives in the morning and afternoon, when the light is soft and the animals are particularly active. Around Seronera in the centre of the park, plenty of game can be seen all year round: lions, leopards along the rivers, cheetahs in the open plains, plus elephants and herds of buffalo. With a lot of luck, you may even see a rhino. In the evening, you return to your accommodation.
Day 5
In the morning, you leave the Serengeti and drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. You descend to the floor of the caldera, which covers around 260 km² and holds one of the highest densities of wildlife in Africa: lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras and wildebeest live between grassland and swamps. There is a good chance that you will also see a black rhino. After the game drive, you drive back to Karatu, where you spend the night again.
Day 6
The last safari day takes you to Tarangire National Park. Mighty baobabs characterise the savannah, and the Tarangire River attracts large herds of elephants, especially in the dry season. On the game drive, you also keep an eye out for buffalo, zebras, wildebeest and lions, which like to stay near the river. In the afternoon, you drive back to Arusha, where the safari ends.
Day 7
After breakfast, the transfer takes you to Arusha Airport. From there, you take the domestic flight to Zanzibar, which is included in your trip. The team picks you up at Zanzibar Airport and takes you to your hotel on the beach. The rest of the day belongs to the Indian Ocean.
Day 8
The first full day on Zanzibar belongs to the beach. You swim in the Indian Ocean, rest and let the safari days sink in. Excursions such as snorkelling or a boat trip on a traditional dhow are not part of the programme; if you wish, the team can book them for you at extra cost.
Day 9
This day is also at your leisure. You can book a trip to Stone Town through the narrow alleys to the markets, or a spice tour on which you see and smell vanilla and cinnamon right there in the garden. Or you can simply try the island's cuisine with fresh fish, spicy curries and tropical fruit.
Day 10
The day is at your leisure; stay on the beach and swim in the warm sea. Diving, kitesurfing or sailing can be booked separately.
Day 11
This island day is also at your leisure. You can book an optional snorkelling trip around Mnemba Island, an island reserve off the coast of Zanzibar.
Day 12
The penultimate island day is free for your own plans. A cultural excursion where you learn more about life on the island can be booked separately, or you can stay on the beach and swim. For dinner, try fresh fish and spicy curries from the island's cuisine.
Day 13
The last full day on Zanzibar is all yours. Swim once more or simply lie on the beach before the trip comes to an end. You can book an excursion that is still on your list separately.
Day 14
After a final breakfast on the beach, the transfer takes you to Zanzibar Airport. There you begin your journey home. If you want to stay longer, the team in Arusha will extend the island days exactly as you wish.
