Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arusha

Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro Airport and drives you to Arusha. Arusha is the starting point of your safari in northern Tanzania. At your accommodation you rest after the journey. The vehicle and guide are exclusively yours for the whole trip.

  2. Day 2

    Arusha → Tarangire

Today you drive with your guide to Tarangire National Park. Mighty baobabs characterise the savannah, and the Tarangire River is the region's most important year-round water source. On the game drive you look out for herds of elephants, buffalo, zebras and lions. With a bit of luck you will see a leopard in an acacia or a baobab.

  3. Day 3

    Tarangire → Karatu

The day begins with another game drive in Tarangire National Park. You see giraffes, waterbuck and warthogs, as well as some of the park's more than 550 bird species. Afterwards the drive continues to Karatu. The town lies close to the Ngorongoro Crater, and your accommodation is your base for the visit to the crater.

  4. Day 4

    Ngorongoro

Early in the morning you descend with your guide to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. Between grassland, swamps and the alkaline lake lies one of the highest densities of wildlife in Africa. You observe lions, buffalo, zebras and hippos, and the chances of seeing a black rhino are good. After a picnic in the crater landscape you drive back to Karatu in the afternoon.

  5. Day 5

    Karatu → Arusha → Zanzibar

After breakfast you say goodbye to Karatu and drive back to Arusha with your guide. From there you continue by domestic flight to Zanzibar. At Zanzibar airport the team picks you up and takes you to your hotel on the beach. The rest of the day is yours.

  6. Day 6

    Zanzibar

The first day on Zanzibar is a beach day. You relax on the white sand and swim in the Indian Ocean. Excursions such as a boat trip on a traditional dhow or sailing are not part of the programme; if you wish, the team can book them for you at extra cost.

  7. Day 7

    Zanzibar

This day is also at your leisure. A trip to Stone Town to the narrow lanes of the old town and the markets, or a spice tour to gardens with vanilla and cinnamon, can be booked on request. In the evening you sample the island's cuisine with fresh fish and spicy curries.

  8. Day 8

    Zanzibar

The last full day on the island is at your leisure. You can stay on the beach or book diving, kitesurfing and a snorkelling tour around the Mnemba Island reserve separately.

  9. Day 9

    Zanzibar

After your last breakfast on the beach, a transfer takes you to Zanzibar airport. From there you begin your journey home. If you would like more time on the island, you can extend your stay in consultation with the team in Arusha.

Nkoaranga Orphanage

The Nkoaranga orphanage at the foot of Mount Meru has existed since 1997; around 30 children up to the age of three live there with 12 carers. Instead of a fixed contribution, Wildfinder Safaris regularly buys supplies for the orphanage: groceries, toiletries and similar items.
