Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Zanzibar

After your arrival at Zanzibar airport, the team picks you up. The transfer takes you to your hotel; along the way you get a first impression of the island's roads and towns. The rest of the day is free for you to arrive and rest.

  2. Day 2

    Zanzibar

The first full day on Zanzibar is spent on the beach. You swim in the Indian Ocean, and there is time by the sea to rest after the journey. If you like, you can also explore the immediate surroundings of the hotel.

  3. Day 3

    Zanzibar

The day is yours to spend on the beach. A trip to Stone Town, to the lanes of the old town and the markets, where you get an impression of the island's history, is not part of the programme; on request, the team will book it for you, and it costs extra.

  4. Day 4

    Zanzibar

This day is also yours to spend as you please. The rest of the day is for the beach. A spice tour on which you see where vanilla and cinnamon grow can be booked on request. You will also sample the island's cuisine with fresh fish and tropical fruit.

  5. Day 5

    Zanzibar

The last full day on the island before the safari is yours to spend as you please; make yourself comfortable on the beach. You can book snorkelling or a boat trip on a traditional dhow separately. In the evening, you pack your luggage for the Serengeti at your own pace.

  6. Day 6

    Zanzibar → Central Serengeti

Today you fly from Zanzibar airport to Seronera Airstrip in the centre of the Serengeti. Your guide meets you at the airstrip and takes you on the first game drive through river valleys and acacia woodland. Game is plentiful around Seronera all year round; with a bit of luck you will see lions or a leopard.

  7. Day 7

    Central Serengeti

You have a full-day game drive in the Serengeti. You set off early in the morning, when the light is soft and the animals are particularly active. Cheetahs hunt on the open plains, and elephants and herds of buffalo move through the grassland. Depending on the season, you will come across the great herds of wildebeest and zebras.

  8. Day 8

    Serengeti → Karatu

In the morning you have another game drive in the Serengeti, looking out for animals you have missed so far. Afterwards you drive on with your guide to Karatu, a town near the Ngorongoro Crater. The evening is for relaxing at your lodge.

  9. Day 9

    Ngorongoro

Early in the morning you descend with your guide to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. The full-day game drive takes you across the roughly 260 km² caldera, where grassland, swamps, patches of woodland and the alkaline lake alternate. You have a good chance of seeing lions, buffalo and the endangered black rhino. At midday there is a picnic near the crater lake.

  10. Day 10

    Karatu → Zanzibar

After breakfast you drive with your guide to the airstrip; the return flight takes you to Zanzibar. At Zanzibar airport the transfer to your beach hotel is waiting. The rest of the day is free for swimming and resting.

  11. Day 11

    Zanzibar

After the safari days you set the pace yourself. You can lie on the beach, swim in the sea and sample the island cuisine with fresh fish and spicy curries.

  12. Day 12

    Zanzibar

This is a free day, a long one by the sea. A trip to the beaches of Nungwi and Kendwa, or snorkelling around the Mnemba Island reserve, can be booked on request.

  13. Day 13

    Zanzibar

Your last full day on Zanzibar is at your leisure. You can book a separate excursion to the island's villages and markets with handmade souvenirs, or you can spend the day on the beach.

  14. Day 14

    Zanzibar

After breakfast it is time to say goodbye to Zanzibar. The transfer takes you to Zanzibar airport in good time, and you begin your journey home.

Nkoaranga Orphanage

The Nkoaranga orphanage at the foot of Mount Meru has existed since 1997; around 30 children up to the age of three live there with 12 carers. Instead of a fixed contribution, Wildfinder Safaris regularly buys supplies for the orphanage: groceries, toiletries and similar items.
